Narcissa entered the stadium where the students were seated. She went towards the judges' place and greeted all the presents.
The stadium was almost full of students. She waited for the champions and for the other students so the task could start.

Post by Melinda Rose Sparewell on Mar 12, 2006 16:04:23 GMT -5
The day had come, and she had been waiting for a long time for it. The day of the Quad Wizard Tournament Task. Since Colleen, their previous Champion, had left, Melinda had taken up the spot to represent Hufflepuff. That morning she had waken up in the 7th year girls dorms, swung her legs over the edge of the bed, and stared at the floor, brown curls spilling in her face. It was like being hit with a sack of flour or something, that realization of what was going to happen. It was one of the first times she realized how nervous she was about all of this, so much was riding on it. Melinda was having some serious doubts that the Hufflepuffs would support her as their Champion, Colleen had been the heart and soul of the house, how could she ever expect to fill those shoes? The girl sighed and looked over at the girls who shared the dorm, and rose from bed.
Everything that morning had been done slowly and deliberately as not to quicken her heart or make her even more nervous. She had opened her trunk silently and changed out of nightclothes into her black robes, these ones she had made for this occasion. When big events like this one happened, she usually wore robes of a lighter material that hugged closer to her form then normal baggy thing, with the shoulders cut off. That was also usually black. Well these were the same thing, except they were a bit different. Around the arms and the hem was a thin yellow ribbon to mark her house, to show her support. Hufflepuff was dieing, nobody could doubt that. Maybe if she could get them to have some spirit, show that she had hers, they would find a way to repair themselves. Her brown curls went up into a bun at the back of her head, and she made sure she had everything before leaving the dorm, her wand in her hand. This was the day things would change. Which Hufflepuffs would come to support her as this event took place, would any for that matter?
The girl forced herself to go to the Great Hall and sit separate from all the Hufflepuffs when she ate breakfast. They would hopefully understand that she was really nervous and could use some time alone to think and center herself. She even made sure she ate a few bites of food before she knew her stomach would reject anything else and she pushed a plate away from her, staring at the table with a soft smile on her face. With each passing moment the Task was looming nearer, what would happen? It wasnt like she wasnt prepared, Melinda had been vigilant. She had been training, both physically and magically every morning, and every night. She would rebound spells on herself and use tactics to either block it, repell it back, counter it, whatever. She also built up her strength and stamina by doing situps, running, pushups, anything that she could between studies and other things. She would be ready for this task, no matter what it held for her. After certain events had happened, she knew there was little they could put in her face that she wouldnt be able to handle. There was little that could cause her enough panic or pain to quit after the Cruciatus Curses. But the Hufflepuffs didnt know that, they just knew some girl who had become their Head Girl had taken Colleen's place.
No, there was no room for doubt. She had to keep focused and positive. So Melinda passed a glance down at the fellow 'Puffs at the table, stood up and left the Great Hall. She went and stood on top of the West Tower until it was time to head down for the task. That was the longest walk she had ever taken. It was like her legs refused to move, her mind told her that if she remained there she wouldnt have to embarass herself in front of her entire house and the rest of the school. But no, she walked down the steps, into the Entrance Hall, and out to the Courtyard. She passed several students on the way to the stadium where the task would take place, but she kept her eyes forward, and walked with an air of confidence despite her emotions. Only someone who saw her eyes would be able to tell what she was truly thinking and feeling, what she was truly worrying about. They entered a different path then her though, they went up into the stands, she had to enter the stadium itself.
Splitting off from the mainstream of students, she took a very deep breath and closed her eyes. Would the people she cared about be there? Of course Professor Sparewell, her father, would be presesnt, he was a judge of the tournamnet. But would the Rice siblings bet here, both were of her house. Did they approve of this, were they worried? Would Tristise and Reagan be there to see what happened to her, or the other Professors she had seen. Would the nurse, Lucien, be watching from the crowd. She had also met some other students from other houses, but didnt dare think of them, because they would no doubt be supporting their own Champions. Would they see her fail, or would they see her triumph? Too many questions, too few answers, but for now, she wasnt going to get them, so there was no sense in worrying. Everything would fall into place.
So Melinda took another deep breath and opened her eyes, a few glimmers in them of gold. She made sure her robes were straight and put on right, that her wand was safely in her hand, and that she had left her Head Girl badge back in the dorm so that it wouldnt get damaged. "Its now or never..." She whispered to herself, and faced the stadium, taking the few steps that would change this. Melinda hadnt taken the first task like two of the other champions had, she had no idea what to expect, or what it was even going to be like standing down there. All she knew is she had to do this, it was her duty, and it was expected of her. Shoulders back, she entered the stadium, the first of the Champions to arrive, and ready for whatever this task was to throw at her.

Henna positioned herself among the students, as they waited for the task to start. She, however, was keen for it to take as much time as possible, because she wanted to interview the champions.
Henna wondered whether or not her sister would show up to watch the tournament. Most likely, but growing up with Cayden, Henna had realized that it was almost never wise to count on her sister for anything regular. She wouldn't do anything ordinary, being such an out of the ordinary person.
As Henna gazed around, she recognized the Hufflepuff champion, Melinda Sparewell. Originally, Colleen Hadley had been champion, but she had left the school, so Melinda had taken her place. Running over the questions she wanted to ask in her head as well as reporters' politeness rules, Henna approached Melinda, and tapped her shoulder.
Smiling cheerfully, Henna said, "Hello, I'm Henna Smith from the Quibbler. I was hoping you might answer me some questions about being a champion in the tournament? But not to be intrusive, of course. It's okay if you'd rather not."

Narcissa saw the first champion to enter the stadium. As the girl approached, she was spotted by a journalist. Narcissa made her way there.
"I am sorry, but Miss Melinda should come with me to take the task's necessary information. I am sure she would like to give an interview after the meeting with the judges or better yet, after the task." Narcissa said her cold face never smiling.
She took the girl to the stand of judges by pushing her slightly to the arm.

"...her cold face never smiling...."
((Well, you needn't be rude about it. I'm not a crazy liar journalist))
Henna nodded as the school's deputy Headmistress came and collected the Hufflepuff champion, steering her away. Henna was smiling, but she was still annoyed at the woman's tone. She had, of course, made it perfectly clear that it was up to Melinda if she wanted to talk or not.

Being one of the judges for the tournament, James's duty called to him one morning. The day of the second task was today, and even if it wasn't his cup of tea to see students facing dangerous tasks for the sake of bringing glory to the house they belong in, he had to come. Admittedly, he enjoyed watching the first task, marvelling at the wit and creativity of the champions in dealing with the tasks that are set before them. But deaths do happen in tournaments such as these, like the last tournament that Hogwarts participated in, where Harry Potter had won and Cedric Diggory had died. Hearing of that news from reliable sources even if the Ministry had tried hushing down the real events, James did develop concern for students in this competition, especially now that he teaches here, and that he's an appointed head of one of the houses.
But now was different and it was no use to fear much because of the past. He knew that both the heads of Hogwarts are taking the necessary precautions so as to prevent much damage without sacrificing the concept of the competition.
James was currently headed out for the courtyard where a stadium was built for the QWT task. Locking his office door the way he did for so many times since he began to live there, he walked with a steady pace first towards the Great Hall where the students were gathered for breakfast and silently did the same, his presence rather unnoticed as he came by and went. Then heading for the stadium, he slightly shivered in the breeze that blew on him. He never paused to inspect his surroundings for his mind was brooding on the prospect of danger within the school once more. Hadn't they had enough of danger, with Death Eaters marching in and out of the grounds, bothering students and even having one killed within the confines of her dorm? He was rather surprised that parents seldomly pull out their children from the school with everything that's happening around.
Taking his place on the judges' stand, James watched as Deputy Headmistress Malfoy ushered Melinda Sparewell, the Hufflepuff champion after Colleen Hadley, away from a reporter who looked like she wanted an interview. James smiled to himself, that's why he never wanted a job for a newspaper or a magazine, people tend to shy away, afraid of the effect of publicity on their profiles.
He looked away, wishing he could see more things, but all he could watch was Narcissa leading Melinda towards the same stand he was in.

Geri entered the stadium eager to watch the second task. He cheered for Morana of course. Geri was dressed all in green and silver and wore a big same colored hat. He loved that hat. It was big and soft.
So, he entered and sat on one of the benches. He saw his aunt Narcissa and one of the champions but could not see the other three ones. Geri started to look around and wait till the beginning of the task.

After having a bit of breakfast in the Great Hall, Solana made her way down to the stadium for the 2nd QWT Task. This time though, there was no Colleen. Instead the new Head Girl had replaced Colleen and would be attempting this for Hufflepuff. Solana had never really met the girl, except once or twice while in the common room. Though she had seen her about and heard about her rather drastic experiences. Solana felt sorry for the girl, she had been through so much and now she was having to face a major task involving who knows what. She hoped the task wasnt too bad and that Hufflepuff would do well. Maybe it would bring back Hufflepuff spirit, as Melinda and Solana had discussed that their house was dying slowly but surely.
Solana was wearing her black robes as normal but she had yellow ribbons attached every here and there to show her support. She also had put yellow streaks through her long black hair and on her head was a giant yellow and black striped hat bearing a badger on the front. She might have looked like an idiot but Solana was trying to show some support and to bring their house back to life. She was hoping to see some other puff's already at the stadium waiting for the task to begin. But she was disappointed. She was the first Hufflepuff to arrive.
As Solana climbed the steps to one of the higher stadium seats she could see the Deputy Headmistress and Melinda talking and walking off from another girl who was left standing there. It was odd. Solana waved at Melinda even though she probably couldn't see her.
Taking a seat near the front, Solana looked around. The task didn't seem to be set up, either that or it was going to appear dramatically and shock the whole school. Solana also noticed a slytherin sitting in one of the supporting benches and chanced a smile towards her.
Solana wondered how long she'd have to wait and also if she was going to be the only supporting puff. Hopefully though, Chris Rice, the head boy would appear to show his support for their house and Melinda.

The first task had come and gone so quickly, and again, Josi was left to toss and turn all night before yet another task. There was no doubt she was nervous, and scared, but still some excitement lingered inside her. The last task had been troublesome, and most definitely scary, but she had come out of it a better witch, and a bit more confident in facing the next task.. or so she thought.
That same feeling she felt the night before the first task had come back to haunt her again. She felt sick to her stomach, dizzy, and although she was incredibly tired she could not got a moments shut eye. All night she sat up in the girls dormitory trying to fall asleep, but it was useless, so she just tried to find ways that she could entertain herself. Usually it would be an easy thing for her to do, but that night it was a lot more difficult to occupy herself, the thought of the second task kept on floating around in her mind. She always thought "I should be in the library right now, I should be touching up on spells..." but she had worn herself out in the past week with non-stop preparation. There was nothing Josi wanted more then to make her house proud, and she was willing to go to any lengths to succeed.
The next day when she woke up, or more, saw that it was time for breakfast she jumped out of bed to get dressed. She put on a black pair of sweat pants, and quickly pulled over a deep green tank top before putting on a black zip-up sweater. She didn't bother to comb her hair because it wasn't that much of a mess, and she put up in a messy bun. She thought about wearing converse or her vans skater shoes and concluded with wearing her converse because skater shoes might not be the easiest thing to do a task in. Before leaving for the Great Hall she picked up her purse and with that she was gone out the door of the girl dorm. and out the common.
After attempting to eat something, but failed for fear it would not settle too nicely in her stomach, she headed to the Courtyard. As she neared the courtyard she could see a few people in the distance, but not too many, so she wasn't late - that was a good start.
Once arriving to the meeting spot she forced a smile to everyone, "Hey..." she said as she turned toward an unfamiliar face. "Wow! Are you the new Hufflepuff Champion?" she asked as she offered her hand to the girl who looked worried, "I'm sure you'll do a fine job."
Josi's ice blue eyes explored the court yard looking for any hint of what they might be doing for the task, but nothing could be seen. That might be what worried her the most, not being able to know what in the world they would be doing for the competition.

Narcissa had just reached the judge's stand, when the Gryffindor champion arrived.
"Welcome Miss Josi! We are waiting for the other champions to come so we can start explaining the task. Do not worry, I am sure you will do fine, the both of you!" Narcissa said smiling a bit at the girls.
"Good morning James!" She greeted her fellow professor.

"Yes everything is set and ready, and as a representative of the Minstry at Hogwarts, I do approve of its continuation. I am a judge, one of the House of Gryffindor, and a judge of the Minsitry of Magic. You all have nothing to worry about." George's head said through the fire. It was procedure that the Ministry was to have a large say in the Tournament, and that was just coincidental luck that George not only was a Ministry judge, but also the new head of Gryffindor House. Smiling to the rest, they close the meeting, and George pulled his head out of the fire and got up from the large fireplace. Brushing himself off the best he could, he slipped on his finest Ministry of Magic robes, these one specially designed to include the seal of Gryffindor, as he was the Head, and tried to get as much soot off his face as he thought possible.
In no time he was on his way to the field, in part worried a whole lot for Melinda. She had never gone through such an event, and althoguh she had proven herself stronger than the average witch, he still feared for her safety. Speaking of her, as he neared the judges and champion tent, he saw his daughter, and the Gryffindor champion as well. He smiled as he entered and spoke to the two.
"Josi, as Head of House, I wish you all the luck and skill of Godric Gryffindor himself. If you need anything, feel free to talk to me, thats why I'm here. Melinda, are you ok? You feel nervuos? You both should, I still haven't forgotten the last Tri-Wizard when it was between three different schools. I will make sure nothing happen to cause death. Like.... C-Cedric. Well, once again, I wish you two good luck, and I will see you two later." he said, hugging his daughter, and then Josi. He then turned and walked out, his good friend still on his mind. It will be 9 years in June that Cedric passed on, a hero of sorts in Hufflepuff just for facing Voldemort.
Shaking everything off, he walked up to the judges area, and greeted the Ravenclaw judge, James Sullivan, and the Deputy Headmistress, Narcissa Malfoy. As Deputy, she was basically in charge of the event.
"Professor Malfoy, I'll have you know that I just came out of a meeting with the Ministry's Sub-Department of Magical Domestic Affairs, and the Hogwarts Board of Governors, and they both have given us authorization and approval to continue with the Task. Though I'm sure we would have done it anyways, Dumbledore was never one to have politics rule the school."

Narcissa smiled and greeted George.
"Good morning George! I am glad the ministry gave the aproval though you are right, Dumbledore opened a new way in making decisions in the school." She said while looking around at the students.
"I hope the headmistress comes soon. It would not be wise to let the tension of these young people grow." she added joking and fixing a ribon of her silver dress.

Post by Chris Rice on Mar 14, 2006 16:00:52 GMT -5
The spectators’ stands were filling, or so they should have been at this point. People may have wondered why Chris Rice, Hufflepuff Head Boy, was as of yet absent from the crowd that had gathered. Their answer was soon to arrive in the form of a tuft of blue hair appearing from the stands.
Chris, a morning person through and through, had risen a couple of hours ago. Nobody need have doubted whether or not he’d be there to support Melinda, least of all the girl herself. He’d been first here, actually; nobody had noticed his presence due to the fact that he’d been sound asleep again, lying across part of the bench nearest the front. He’d fallen asleep when there was simply nothing else to do, but now the increasing level of noise roused him. His eyes opened fairly slowly, but the hard surface on which he laid confused him only for a fraction of a second, and then he was sitting bolt upright and searching the area for Melinda. Yes, of course he was there. Of course he was supporting her.
It was likely that people expected him to turn up and show support simply to be in keeping with house spirit or to show support for his fellow Hufflepuff Head. He knew that some would wonder though- at the last event, he’d been here to show support for their previous Hufflepuff champion. Since then, Colleen, their ex-champion, had been replaced by Melinda due to her sudden, unexplained disappearance. There was bound to be speculation over the issue, for Chris had been dating Colleen when she left. People would probably wonder if he felt bitter towards the girl who’d stepped in to fill the position Colleen had held. Most people knew that Chris and Melinda were close, but a school was like a rumour mill, especially a school like Hogwarts, where magic made everything quicker, faster. He was willing to bet that there would be people who hoped to see a bit of a sore issue, a bit of bitterness in their relationship, a nice, juicy bit of scandalous gossip they could twist and feed off.
They would be disappointed.
Chris was one hundred percent behind Melinda. He just wished she didn’t have to face any more dangers- like she needed them. Still, compared to what she’d been through before, this was infinitely better. At least he knew that the whole thing had been meticulously planned by the administration so that there was the lowest level of risk possible. And they had staff on hand, should anything go wrong. Without a doubt, this was far better than watching her fall into a lake while immobilised or losing blood due to stab wounds or unconscious and suffering the after-effects of a Cruciatus curse…or five.
It was weird though, he reflected as he continued to scan the Courtyard. It was like déjà vu, except all gone wrong or mixed up. He’d been here before, he’d done this before- he’d come to support Colleen and had been nervous for her, and now, much in the same way, he’d come to support Melinda, and yes, he was nervous again too. Precious few students knew what had passed between himself and Melinda upon her recent return to the school. In fact, they’d been blessed, in a way, that it had been Tris and Charlie who’d been the only others there- from the impression Chris had gotten of Tris, the girl didn’t talk to students all that much. She probably wasn’t likely to spread news or gossip. Charlie, showing her loyalty as a Hufflepuff and primarily as a sister, had said nothing much to anyone much. It seemed that she and Tris hadn’t told anyone of what had happened, or had told precious few at any rate. Otherwise speculation would be even higher. Around the time of the tasks, Champions generally found themselves figures of fame. The gossip would have been rife if they got wind of the fact that the Hufflepuff Head Boy, who’d been dating the previous Hufflepuff Champion, had so recently shared a kiss…or two… with their new Champion. As the new Champ, she had speculation enough to deal with already.
Thinking it all over, Chris felt a little uncomfortable again. The whole situation was so weird. He felt a pang of guilt over Colleen. He still didn’t know what had happened to her. If she hadn’t left, would he still be going out with her? He didn’t know, because his feelings for Melinda couldn’t be ignored. He’d only met Melinda after Colleen had gone, but it would have happened had she stayed. The Head Boy and Girl couldn’t possibly have stayed unacquainted once given their positions. If he’d been seeing Colleen, would he have ever looked at Melinda as more than a friend? It was an uncomfortable question on a few different levels, and one that made him squirm. Still, he thought he knew the answer. He had no idea where he and Melinda stood, but he couldn’t imagine not feeling anything for her…which, of course, made him feel another guilty pang as he thought of Colleen yet again. Not that he’d ever have cheated on Colleen… but perhaps their relationship would have come to a less abrupt ending anyway. He didn’t know… because when Colleen had left, there was no denying how upset he’d been over her absence either. There was no denying he’d missed her dreadfully. d**n it, it was too confusing.
One thing was clear though, and Chris was glad that at least one issue was clear-cut, black and white. He was here in full support of Melinda, not just for show, and he was behind her all the way. There was not a shred of bitterness, regret or disapproval against her as far as his feelings went.
On that thought, he spotted her. She had been hidden from his view, but now he saw her beside Josi, who appeared to be introducing herself. Chris had met Josi before…she was Colleen’s friend. Pang number one million and fifty. Oh well. There didn’t seem to students anywhere but in the stands; Chris spotted a girl a little way behind him and recognised her as their Hufflepuff prefect, though they’d never met. He waved briefly. The others he didn’t know. Still, there was no harm in running out into where Melinda and Josi stood for a while, not until the task was almost underway. That was his reasoning anyway. At the last task, students had been milling around everywhere so why would this be different? So thinking, he dumped him cloak to mark his spot and ran down to the girls, Hufflepuff scarf on to show his pride in his colours. Placing a hand on Melinda’s shoulder as he reached them, he smiled warmly, but although the smile was genuine and clearly contained a real happiness to see them, it couldn’t hide his slight nervousness. “Hey Josi, I haven’t seen you in a while. How are you doing?” he asked the Gryffindor first, repeating the question again a split second later, this time for Melinda. “How are you? Nervous? Do you need anything?”
Knowing Melinda, she was probably as prepared as anyone could ever be. Still, it wouldn’t do him any harm to be occupied with something for a while, so he’d be quite happy to be a gofer for a while.

Melinda had been inside the stadium for maybe a minute or two, and already a reporter was coming up. The people of the Daily Prophet and of the Quibbler were about to find themselves dissapointed, this Hufflepuff Champion wasnt about to sit around an answer questions before a task that she was almost sick to her stomach about, more then anything she wanted to be alone, or around a select number of people. But before she had a chance to turn the Quibbler reporter away, the Deputy Headmistress came along and shooed the woman off, directing Melinda away from her. That the Hufflepuff did feel a bit bad about and she mouthed a 'sorry' as she was pushed away from the reporter. At least it could have been done politely, but then she remembered that their Deputy Headmistress was a Slytherin, and sighed. This was the best she could hope for in this situation.
She was ushered over to the Judges stand where Professor Sullivan, the Ancient Runes teacher was already standing, and it seemed they were awaiting the other judges to show. Melinda could just smile nervously and stand there, nodding her head at the Ravenclaw judge. "Mornin Professor" Her voice was quiet, and her nerves were rising, and it took all her will right now to shove them back down and just close her eyes for a moment and breath. Besides, another champion had arrived to the judges stand to come and stand by her. She had heard everyone's names of course, so she knew who Josi was. And why ask her if she was the Champion for Hufflepuff, wasnt her colors enough to show that? And why in the world was a witch wearing muggle clothing? Too many questions, Melinda didnt want the answers, she just took the proferred hand and shook it, a smile of her own on her face.
"Yes, Im Melinda Sparewell, Im the new Hufflepuff Champion. You must be Josi Emerald, I heard about the last task, brilliant. Im sure you will do well too." She said softly, not wanting to bring her voice too high, but also trying to calm her nerves a bit. But Melinda's smile was nice and genuine. She went to speak again, but there was yet another visitor as another judge arrived, and this one she was glad to see, her father, Professor Sparewell. The girl had this odd sense of detatchment talking to him, and it reminded her how alone the Champions were when it came to these Tasks, that they had nobody by their side, not even family. The Professor couldnt even really openly support her like a father would a daughter, and should only really be supporting the Gryffindor Champion as he was Head of that House, and was a judge. Melinda could only smile briefly at him, masking her emotions as best she could. His words hadnt been supporting at all, he was saying they should be nervous, oi vei! That made her stomach jump a few more notches, and just the fact he was saying that made her feeling of loneliness get even stronger. She nodded at her father, let him hug her, and watched him walk off, her face bearing more of her nerves then they had before.
She didnt want to talk to the Gryffindor Champion at that moment, it would only break her focus probably and make her more nervous. This was her first time doing a task, unlike two of the champions. But her eyes did go up to the stands for a moment and she did indeed see Solana wavng, and she smiled and waved back. It was one of the best things she could hope for, at least one Hufflepuff supporting their Champion who had replaced the first, and it was nice to see it was the Prefect there. But that wasnt the only person who had come down to see her, except this person had entered the ground itself. Melinda had a grin on her face when she saw Chris coming, easily recognized by his blue hair and his black and yellow scarf. She shouldnt have doubted him for a minute, but when someone was as nervous as she was, they would have doubted anything.
He was one of the best people she could have seen at that moment, as someone she felt close to and wouldnt snap at if they came near her. She was likely to do that to any other students, though if the Hufflepuffs wanted to show support, they would only get smiles and warm words from her. There was something more about this Tournament for Melinda, it wasnt just for her own sake, though she admitted to herself it would look wonderful on her resumee if applying for a job. It was about the spirit of the House of Hufflepuff itself, to bring them some glory and show that they were strong and had spirit, to unite them again. But how was that to happen when so few people were still in the house, and fewer still to come support? That question would be asked later, Melinda had a resolve to show the house here that they had a Champion who was strong and would show this school what Hufflepuff's loyalty and honesty could do.
Melinda was smiling at him still as he addressed the Gryffindor Champion, asking how she was. Then he talked to her, and she nodded and noticed that his own smile held traces of nerves in them, but he had no reason to be nervous. This event would be completley safe, and she was ready for it no matter how much her own nerves rebelled. She gave a small chuckle. "Me? Nervous? No...never..." She said in a quiet and joking voice, trying to make light of the situation that was more serious then most took it to be. But she sighed and looked at him, nodding. "Of course Im nervous, I mean, who wouldnt be. A student died in this a while ago, and Im still waiting to see if Hufflepuff supports me in this. But Ill be fine, Ill go in there and show everyone what I can do!" She said cheerfully, putting some will in her voice like she was trying to convince herself as well.
Her voice was toned down a bit when she spoke to him this time, hoping that Josi wouldnt catch her words or understand the meaning in them. "Thanks for coming down Chris, it means a lot to me. Its nice to know that even if some people dont approve of me being here, a couple people do." It wasnt just because he was of the House of Hufflepuff and her fellow Head that she was happy to see him in a time like this, it was just the fact that she had feelings for him as well, as were awkwardly displayed that morning that she returned from France. But she wasnt sure how comftorable he would be with her hugging him right then and there in front of the students, so she was content to just stand there by him, even if it was only a short while. Someone supporting her when her father couldnt was a great thing to have, because this task would be trying on her nerves, and on her character.

More and more people were filling up the stands, mostly students who come to support their champions. James noticed that Hufflepuffs were the first to come, even the champion came first, and he realized how loyal and united these people are. He had wondered how the Puffs would react to a change of champions when Collen left, but now, based on what he was seeing, he was surprised that they were willing to support anyone as long as the person is in Hufflepuff.
The next champion to arrive was Josi Emrald from Gryffindor, and he returned her smile, wanting to look less worried about the fate of these girls. He was not about to add to their state of anxiety with his constant brooding, and a smile will surely encourage them to do their best.
"Good morning, Narcissa," James replied to the Deputy's greeting when she saw him, and then set his eyes upon Melinda. He smiled at her timid "Mornin',"; he understood that she was the most likely nervous of all the other champions, well, except maybe for Leki Kekipi, who have replaced Mai Gamit as the Ravenclaw champion. Remembering him, he looked around for Leki or any sign of a Ravenclaw student that might be around. But only a Slytherin was present for the meantime, and a couple of Hufflepuffs, one their Head Boy, who had gone to speak with Melinda. Is Leki going to be present? James will definitely feel disappointed if their champion would go in last place again; but he's tryng not to put pressure on him because he knew that won't help at all. He just wish he'd show up and do the task without any lasting damage.
He returned his thought upon the task at hand and was surprised to see George Sparewell already there with them. He was talking to Narcissa about Ministry stuff that James accidentally zoned out when he returned George's greeting. He wondered how the new Head of Gryffindor was feeling, surely his support seemed torn of sorts? James knew George had adopted Melinda as is daughter, and had shown a lot of concern for the girl, but he's still inclined to support Gryffindor's champion, yes? But it didn't really matter to James, he's even surprised that the thought crossed his mind.
EDIT: from Sarah to Leki.

Even though Ellie was new, she was still a part of Hufflepuff. The girl had just arrived a couple of days ago, but she had gotten word of who was their Head Girl and Quad Wizard Tournament Champion. The rumors that surrounded Ms. Sparewell were enough to bring shivers to anyone's spine, including Ellie's. But even though she was new here, she would be standing in the stands with the rest of her house to support their Champion against the others. She wished it had still been the time when this tournament was held between schools, but then she would have been at Hogwarts watching her precious Beauxbatons compete as well, and not know who to cheer! But all the same, she had gotten up that morning and went to breakfast, had watched their Champion pick at her food in silence and alone at the table before going into her dorms that she shared with the other 3rd Year Girls. There she changed into bright yellow and black robes that clashed horribly with her golden blonde hair and her light blue eyes. She had also gotten ahold of some ribbons and braided those into her hair, the black gleaming with gold sparkles that would be seen anywhere. She had magicked up a small banner that read their Champion's name and had the House of Hufflepuff on it. This house may be the smallest of them all, but hopefully they would have the most spirit. At least little Ellie would have that spirit. She had dashed down to the stadium to get good seats and went where she saw another girl decked in the bright colors of Hufflepuff, and she smiled and ran over to her, Solana. There werent any other 'Puffs here though, and that was a little sadening, because from the look on Melinda's face as she had left the breakfast table had been fear and worry, and she would need all the support she could get. "Hello Hello!" Ellie said cheerfully, going over to said by Solana, keeping the little banner she had in her hand down she smiled again and waved. "Here to support Melinda and the loyal House of Hufflepuff? Well...at least semi-loyal.." She added the last part at a grumble as she looked around to seek more 'Puff students. She looked down in the stadium to see Melinda standing there with some boy who was also obviously of Hufflepuff... and he had blue hair, how curious. Ellie wrinkled her nose up in distaste, but, to each their own she supposed. "Who is that?" Ellie asked, pointing to the boy next to Melinda. She also saw another girl there, she presumed to be one of the Champions of another house. But so far that meant two of the Champions were missing, had they chickened out? Personally Ellie didnt care about the others, she was too focused on her house getting some glory for once not in the form of a dead student fighting for it. OOC: -pokes EVERYONE on the site violently- Lets get going here people!

Amber arrived to the courtyard, hearing that the second task was today. A yawn escaped from her mouth, for she was pretty tired. Yesterday, she could not sleep very well, for she was excited about the second task. Her hazel colored eyes observed the area a little, bit, noticing Josi and a new Hufflepuff champion. She waved to Josi and smiled, but then continued to observed. She also saw Geri, the Slytherin second year she was practicing with for DADA.
She walked over to the second year and greeted him. "Hey Geri!". Her tones were cheerful, yet held the tiredness.

Solana saw Chris rise from the benches and give her a wave. So he was here, Solana thought and this made her a little more comfortable. She wasn't the only puff. Solana gave a wave back to Chris and watched as he sprinted off to talk to Melinda.
Solana was just looking around at the rest of the students clambering about on the stands, coming to support their own champions and wondering waht the task would be. When a 'Puff she hadn't seen before appeared at her side.
"Yep, always the supportive ones aren't we? Well supposed to be..." Solana trailed off, where had all the puff pride gone? Solana wondered. This house needed more life! Solana looked to where the new girl pointed and asked who he was.
"Oh...That's Chris, he's the Head boy." Solana smiled and then realised she hadn't introduced herself.
"How rude of me!" Solana gasped. "Im Solana Taylor, 5th Year Hufflepuff Prefect and Seeker." That was a bit of a mouthful, Solana thought. "Im guessing you're new here, I haven't seen you before. Welcome to Hogwarts." Solana smiled at the new girl.
Even though she wasn't alone, there were now only three Hufflepuffs here to support their Champion. Solana wondered if she should send a message up to the common room to say that Hufflepuffs needed to come show some support. She pondered on this thought as she waited for the new girl to reply.

Post by Leki Kekipi on Mar 27, 2006 22:04:08 GMT -5
Leki could hardly have fallen asleep the night before. For some reason, he felt esteemed, and highly excited to have been chosen as the new Ravenclaw champion. He had gotten out of bed a bit slowly, as if every move of his required a moment of contemplating, like a chess game. After getting out of bed and stretching, he decided to take a quick shower. and dried his hair some with the towel, combing it, then shaking his head to give it the slightly wild, yet feathered look it commonly had. He grabbed the shark tooth necklace lying on the stand next to his bed, putting it over his head, so that it now rested around his neck. He continuously revisited the thought of where he stood in Ravenclaw. It wasn't as if everyone disliked him. The only problem was that very few people knew him on a personal basis, and he was willing to admit that he had more close friends in Slytherin than he did in his own house. He chuckled at the thought of his two Slytherin friends, Sammy and Cynthia, having the dilemma of trying to decide to support their best friend from Ravenclaw, or their house's champion. Leki reached over and grabbed his white gloves, slipping them over his hand and pulling them so that they fit snugly like a perfectly tailored suit.
When it came time for breakfast, Leki ate his usual share of food. Incidentally, that was a lot of food compared to an average person. He wondered if anyone had acknowledged or realized he was the new Ravenclaw champion. He knew at least one person, his girlfriend would. He wasn't bitter about not being very widely known within his house, it however, did bother him a small bit. He looked down at a pair of "gauntlets" that his Uncle had made him as part of Leki's tournament outfit. They were made of leather, which was magically altered into a Ravenclaw blue, with a metallic recreation of the emblem on the backs of the hands. He then came to the realization that wether or not he was known to be the new champion, all of Ravenclaw would be riding on his shoulders. He also realized that Ravenclaw seemed to be suffering from a serious lack of morale. Leki's mind refused the injection of such things known as "Nervousness" and "Fear". Leki had learned to make his will like steel. He was one hard boiled student.
He had looked for his girlfriend on a secondary basis, hoping to be able to see her one more time in private before having to head towards the Stadium where the task would be held. To no avail, he did not find her. He did sit down for a bit after having approached the stadium. Was he having second thoughts? No, but a task of this magnitude even required him to give himself a pep talk. "Alright Leki, you know that participating could bring you potentially unwanted attention. You never really wanted all the attention that others had, you were content with just being one of the anonymii. But now that you've been chosen, you have to remember that this isn't for -just- you. It's for you and the rest of Ravenclaw as well. This is the time to let everyone know what you're made of."
As Leki got up from the seat he had taken near the Stadium, a raging river of thought was pounding his brain. He continued to dwell on the thought that he didn't have a previous high position in his house. It was almost like a rags to riches story, only that he didn't have much of an aspiration to be widely known. But now that he was the new Champion, there was no way to avoid that bullet. He was glad that he's now the Leki that Gemini, his dearest, made him into, not the Leki he was before. The Leki know could deal with all the attention. But at the same time, he would also be humble about it. If he won, he wouldn't let it go to his head. He was doing this for the good of the house, not for self gain.
He stepped into the stadium, leaning his head to either side, popping stiff joints and loosening tense muscles, then moving to crack his knuckles. That was a habit of his when he was getting himself psyched for something upcoming. Another part of his self encouragement was that he now had set up a playlist of music in his mind, using that to take his mind off of the initial tension of having just entered the stadium. At the same time, his unenthusiastic looking eyes scanned the crowd calmly, he was hoping to spot any familiar face. He tugged at the sides of his navy blue trimmed robes to get the wrinkles out, then thought to himself that it was silly, because the robes would probably end up getting far worse than wrinkled by the time the tournament was over. All he could do now was wait for the task to start.

It was a hard morning for Gem. She knew she should have been with Leki to mentally prepare him for what was to come. He would have liked to have her there, she thought, but she was too stressed with worry to even get out of bed. She was an early riser but that day she couldn’t get up until 10.
She dressed slowly, not excited for the new day. The competition was so dangerous. The last time it was held at Hogwarts someone died!!! Gem shook her head, trying to relieve herself of these thoughts. Her short red hair was messy with bed head so she pushed a comb through. She tied it with a bow, blue for her house. Blue for Leki the Ravenclaw Champion.
Tears were starting to fill up her eyes. She blinked furiously a couple of time. Not today, it was a happy day, no crying. Gem had to be strong for Leki.
She made her way toward the stadium, searching for Sammy and Cynthia, they always cheered her up. She spotted Leki and she yearned to go up to him, but she didn’t know if it were permitted. She waved at him, hoping he would see her. She stood on the tips of her toes over all the people. Many people were filing in now.
“Leki!” she called to grab his attention. “Leki! Hello!”

Leki was in a daze in his mental fog of listening to music mentally. However, a familar and comforting voice grabbed him out of his daze, and he felt his gaze pinpoint Gem, who was calling out to him. He smiled broadly at her, and gave her a wave. He could have cried at the sight of her, bur the took a deep breath, and made a discovery. Her appearance didn't, and wouldn't break his focus.
Upon having seen Gem in the stadium, all of his fears and doubts were immediately erased.
He had full confidence in himself now that Gem was there. He felt like he could take on the world right now. Memories began to fill his head. Memories of the good times Gem and he had. Back when they were first years, and had admitted their love for each other. Times in class together, the Yule Ball, although ended on a sour note. All he had left was anticipation for the upcoming task. He wondered what it could possibly be. He began to run scenarios in his head of what to do in which situation, should it ever come up in the remaning tasks. However, even he couldn't predict what was to come. He remembered long ago that he wanted something to get his blood pumping, to get his adrenaline flowing. He got what he wanted.
At this moment, he was unstoppable.

Sammy entered the stadium, looking for Cynthia in all the hullabaloo. He was so excited that one of his own friends was in the tournament. Can you believe? Leki the Ravenclaw Champion! Sammy nearly laughed at this thought. Secretly he was cheering for him, not wanting the other Slytherins to be angry, but he didn’t even know who the Slytherin champion was. Personally, at least, he knew her name.
A blurb of blue with a bob of red at the top was bouncing around at the corner of his eye. Sammy looked over at Gem and there she was jumping up and down like an idiot, probably trying to get Leki to see her. It got everyone else to see her, many kids were watching her.
Sammy wondered how Gem was taking it. Her boyfriend, no fiance, was competing, she should be feeling some tension or anxiety. He went over to her to make sure they sat together.
“Gemmy,” he said, teasing, “Who you waving to? Oh yeah Leki, why is he over there? Oh yeah, he’s the Ravenclaw Champ isn’t he?”
He laughed. “Kidding. It’s great, though, isn’t it? I’m so excited.”
Where’s Cynthia? he thought.

Cynthia seemed to weave through the crowd of people, spotting two familiar heads of red and blonde. Once she got close enough, she grabbed Sammy around the neck and started to give him a noogie, letting out a loud cheer for Leki. Hey, she stuck with her friends, and by doing this, probably earned her some nasty looks from nearby Slytherins. She would normally take the time to return each glare at twice the ferocity, but she was focused on the people in the stadium, especially her best friend Leki.
"I never would have expected Leki to step up to the plate in place of the first two Ravenclaw champions." she said to Gem and Sammy.

*Claire sauntered into the stadium 15 minutes before the contest was going to start. She was really starting to get annoyed with Hogwarts in general. She'd tried out to be the replacement Ravenclaw Champion, but just as she'd been turned down as Ravenclaw female Prefect and Head Girl even though she was younger, she'd been turned down as Champion. The only reason she had showed up was to see if anybody was there to hang out with, otherwise she'd be going back to the the girls dorms to do a DIY spa day.*
*The Rave Champion, Leki, had showed up and was already in the stadium preparing for the tasks ahead. She sighed heavily and slumped down into one of the benches, a bored and angry look on her face.*
I hate this!
*She thought to herself, crossing her arms across her chest.*
I do everything for this school and I get nothing in return. I should just go back to Beauxbatons, at least I was appreciate there!

Prue barked loudly as Charlie made her way through the crowd. She had woken up to the canine just this morning and found it exciting to have the freedom to -not- use her wand to get around.
With the Ecopulse charm going, Charlie traversed the steps, finding an empty seat carefully. A few people bumped into her and she glared at them. People were bloody rude sometimes.
Seating herself carefully, she scratched the squirming Prue behind the ears. She listened to the chatter around her and, tapping the person infront of her on the shoulder, asked where her brother is.
The person pointed and Charlie frowned. "I'm blind. You have to actually use your words and tell me." She said. A weird dream she had the night before left her crabby.
"Oh, so sorry miss." The boy said, blushing. "Chris is inside the stadium with the Hufflepuff Champion, Melinda."
"Thank you," Charlie said, sitting back. The crowds excitement was intoxicating and Charlie drank it in, smiling down at Mel and her brother. She doubted they'd see her but oh well.

Melinda saw that more and more people were arriving to the stands. The Task would start soon hopefully, they were still waiting on the other two Champion, but after that, who knew. It was like facing the unknown, these people could throw anything at her, and she just had to hope that she was prepared for it. She wished that Colleen was there, and hadnt left. That girl had been so right for their house, and wouldnt be as nervous as she was hopefully. It would be her standing here in the place of a Champion near Chris, not Melinda who was so nervous about this. The girl really had no reason to be, what with all the training and spells she knew and was prepared to use, but all the same, she just didnt know. She took a deep breath and looked in the crowd again, wondering who would be coming, and saw that another girl dressed in the colors of a Hufflepuff was there, talking to Solana. At that sight Melinda smiled and waved towards where her fellow 'Puffs were sitting, hopefully she didnt look so nervous to them seeing as she was further away. But her attention was diverted by someone else coming into the stadium itself, someone she knew from the trim on his robes to be the Ravenclaw Champion. But she didnt feel the same way about this boy as she had the Gryffindor Champion, not in the least.
At least Josi had been kind to her, and came over and said Hello, introduced herself. This boy had completley ignored the other Champions that were standing here in the stadium, and seemed to prefer to be off by himself. Why, he hadnt even come over by the judges where they were supposed to await their instructions. He had to be a new Champion, Mai hadnt been like this when she came in to face the unknown. Another thing about Leki that made her wand to strangle something and filled her with some fire was the fact that he seemed so overconfident, he wasnt running with the nerves that she and Josi had. Was he daft? These events were meant to be dangerous and try their nerves, their daring, their skill, their bravery, their will! It was alright to be confident, but to be confident in the face of this task was stupidity. Nobody but the judges knew what was actually going to happen, there was no way to be confident, and no way to be focused. Melinda didnt want to be near Leki, and the boy was certainly not giving off a good first impression!
Melinda shook her head and turned her gaze from him, ignoring the boy. More people she knew had arrived in the stands. By the Ravenclaws she saw Claire, someone who she smiled at seeing. Sure the girl was from a different house, and would probably be supporting Leki, Melinda didnt grudge her for that, but the same, they were on friendly terms. She smiled at the girl who just did not want to be there by the looks of things, and waved to her. Hopefully Claire would stay, even if she was from another house. But another face in the crowd made her smile again, and she waved to someone who had just joined the Hufflepuffs. Charlie was there, and it meant a lot that both the Rice siblings were coming to watch the Task. Of course Charlie might not be able to see her down here in the stadium, but maybe the Eco-Pulse charm worked that far from Prue's collar, and she would be able to see.
The girl gave another sigh and put her hands at her side. So many people here to see whether or not they suceeded or failed. Melinda turned her gaze back to Chris. "The Task might start soon I think, it may be best if you go up and sit with your sister in the stands. Thanks for coming down Chris." She said quietly to the boy, knowing that he should probably get back up to where Charlie was, and pointed her out just in case he didnt see her. The judges might not like him standing down there when they decided to brief the Champions on what the Task was going to be. But she was torn at the moment, and almost went to give him a light shove towards where the stairs were to the stands. Melinda didnt want him to go, having him nearby was comforting and was helping to calm her nerves, but he had to. She knew that a reporter from the Quibbler may be watching, but she gave a sigh and wrapped her arms around him in a hug for a moment before giving him a light kiss on the cheek.
"Up to the stands with you." She said quietly, flashing a small smile although there was worry in her eyes that he might not like what she had just done. But there was no time to think about that then, she gave him a small push on the arm and turned away from him, casting her eyes towards the ground and taking deep breaths, calming herself down and waiting for her instructions on what was coming. Only one more Champion was needed, and then it would all begin.

Ellie grinned at Solana as she explained some things. Hufflepuff should be the supportive house right now, they were supposed to be the closest people, like a family, because of their nature. And yet, three of them so far. Only three had managed the journey to come and see a task that would be completely amazing, to see one of their own go through a trial that could be eventually life changing. Just wonderful. "Well, if more Hufflepuffs dont get down here sometime, I may just have to clone myself...or summon them all down here with a summoning charm, either one works." She joked a bit, Ellie couldnt do any of that magic. She was told who Chris was and she smiled, at least their Champion had someone coming down to say Hello to them.
The Prefect introduced herself and she grinned, holding out a hand to shake. "Pleasure to meet you Ms. Solana. I am new here to Hogwarts, just came here recently. Im Ellie Marie Stewart, 3rd year and very proud to be in Hufflepuff." She said cheerfully and brightly, hoping to cheer Solana up a bit. "And you are the Seeker for the team? I hope to become a Back-Up Chaser, just in case you ever need me, I have the skill I need on a broom." She said, looking around. The Ravenclaw Champion arrived and Ellie wrinkled her nose a bit, and she had the same thoughts Melinda did. "Well, looks like Ravenclaw has yet another new Champion, why are they all just dropping out? And I dont like the look of this one."
She was joking around a bit, but there was mischief in her grin as she looked at Solana. More people arrived, and Ellie saw another girl who was blind come and sit down with her puppy in her lap. The 'Puff thought of Basil who was a golden lab, and this puppy was a black lab. "Excuse me a moment." She said to Solana before cheerfully jumping down to stand by where Charlie was. "Hello there! Im Ellie Stewart, 3rd year in Hufflepuff, would you like to come up and sit by Solana and me? We could cheer for Melinda as one big happy group." She said with a smile that she knew Charlie couldnt see, but she smiled anyways.
Ellie turned her head just in time to see Melinda embrace and then kiss Chris, and she gave a laugh. "Well, that isnt something you see everyday." She said jokingly, waiting for Charlie's response so they could go up and join Solana.

Leki almost could sense some of the negative vibes coming from several people. This is just what he had imagined. It further proved the constant though that with him, he brought an aura of dislike. At the same time, he didn't mind. Of course he was new, and didn't follow the usual protocol of waiting at the judges' stand. He wanted to keep to himself because that was his nature. He -always- was the loner of a group. If people didn't like the way he handled himself, he really couldn't help that. He wasn't overconfident, sure, he knew he'd be facing the unknown, but he didn't let it show. He never let anything show unless it were uncontrollable. People would see emotion once he was deep within the workings of the task. He was simply doing this to keep his cool, not to have what he would call an "overreaction". But of course, the way he viewed things was radically different. He wasn't the friendliest person to know, which explains why he struck off on his own while waiting for the task to start.
(OOC: Not my best, but the bell's ringing and I gotta go.)

The first year then noticed Claire. She looked like she was in a pretty bad mood. A sigh escaped from her mouth. She looked back at Geri and said, "I'll be right back". Then she went right toward Claire and smiled at her. "Hey Claire! W-what's wrong?". She sat next to the older girl to listen to her reply.

*Claire sighed. She'd been muttering to herself in French so nobody could understand her. There were times when one simply did not want to be heard. She gave a weak smile to Melinda, the Hufflepuff Champion who she would be rooting for. Claire was a strong girl. She could hold grudges like nobody's business. But there were some things she couldn't do, such as ignoring a sweet and concerned 1st year student from a different house who had cared enough to at least ask her if she was ok.*
Hi Amber. I'm irritated because transfering to this school has been a complete and utter disaster. They school never takes advantage of my skills and talents, and frankly, I'm sick to death of it.
*She leaned back against the railing next to her and sighed again. She found herself sighing a lot more frequently since she'd transfered to Hogwarts.*
But it's not your fault Amber, I'm sorry. I'm in such a terrible mood right now...I can't remember the last time I've felt this angry, or upset, or hurt, or unappreciated.
