we wear uniforms at hogwarts, we do not wear cut offs, mini skirts, etc during the day, only when you leave for hogsmead or soemthing are you allowed to not be in uniform. when you post about your clothes say your wearing a cloak, or a tie, or robes. we are wizards its what we do. it just bothers me how people talk about what they are wearing because you are not wearing that, this is hogwarts and we are required to wear school uniforms while in school.

I don't know, I think because it's a message board we should have the ability to wear different clothes at least sometimes. It gets so dull wearing black all the time, I mean really! Claire doesn't always wear other clothes, only sometimes.

its not really the wearing other colors that i think is all that wrong, its more of the wearing of non-wizarding things... i mean red cloaks or robes or whatever thats all good i suppose, its more of lilke people wearing "mini skirts" and such, because that is ridiculous for two reasons.... one its not very wizardy and two... were in brittan and even though there are alot of americans and such on the sight we have to keep in mind that this is england and it is cold, even in the summer when its hot. thats the main problem. like sweats for jogging or lounging around is cool but i dont know the people in mini's got to me i suppose. no hateration intended

I agree with the mini skirt thing unless you're indoors or enchanted by a warming charm or something, but I think we should be allowed to wear jeans, different skirts, dresses, etc.

i agree.. for like weekends or just around the common room but i remeber reading in a class thread about someone saying how they walked into class in a miniskirt and a tank-top... i just thought that was ridiculous

dido...but how wrong is it to wear the clothing under your cloak? my other sharacter is always saying she is wearing a long dark skirt and a red corset top, but can she wear that under her cloak? and have it be seen if the cloak is open...does that work?...and mind you its is only when she is not in class....

Here is what i think, yes they can wear what they want, but they have to wear the school clothes in the castle and if caught not wearing it (unless in Hogsmade or the grounds) lose point for thier house.

Another thing, when prefects and heads are on duty, they should also be wearing house robes to show they are the Head and/or Prefect of their house. Just being about is one thing but on patrol and doing school business is when robes and uniforms should be worn.

and you must remember another thing is its bassed on this time not in the 1990's when ever its like a weekend or something like that we can wear anything we like I dont discribe my clothing in classes and in such because it obivous there wearing uniforms but if were on a field trip some where shes gonna wear pants and I usally say that instead of the pleated school uniform skirt and dres top under her cloak and when I say Lizabeths hunting I always put her in a big black cloak I still go with the theme but I like doing on certain days when I post like week ends I put my char's in muggle clothes because she was around muggles allot before hand so its one of those thing and Pamona you can't take points away if they say its on a week end or late at night on the trip to the bathroom because there allowed in regular clothes at those times, thats my two cents.

Has anyone in this thread actually read the books? I'd like an excerpt that actually shows JK Rowling describing uniforms. So what if it's in the movies, movies are wrong a lot of the time. I remember the robes being mentioned, but I do not recall the mention of "uniforms". If someone shows me where it's said with page numbers and the lot, good grief I'll bow to you... ((I'm completely serious here))
Anyway, my view on the whole matter is, don't go so far as to push uniforms. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it needs to be changed. Creative license. I'd say robes should be worn in classes, but otherwise, let them wear whatever. Besides, you learn a lot from people based on what they wear to school. *shrugs*
Hope I didn't offend anyone as it wasn't my intent.

I can't say it bugs me too much when people say their character is wearing mini skirts and such out of class. It is their chracter so I think they should be allowed to wear whatever they want to. If it is like your character to wear a short skirt then it shouldn't be banned. I live in Canada and believe me its COLD here in the winter, but that doesn't stop all people from wearing mini skirts. Basically I don't think there is much to complain about besides the fact that people really should wear robes to class. If characters aren't allowed to even wear what they want then it takes away some of the individuality of that character. Some people are more conservative and don't like revealing tons of skin because it makes them uncomfortable (like me) and some don't mind it at all. Thats just the way it is.

I am not picky at all *not that i really post with that many people w/ this char anyways* Nevertheless, I think there should be a limit on the revealingness *pardon my vocab* of clothes in classes not necessairily uniforms, but some limit...
as far as outside of classes *especially outside of the school*, students should be able to wear what they want
