Some people have asked me how to move up a year (for example, if they are a 4th year student, how do you become a 5th year student?). Originally I was going to try to have be as close to RL (real-life) as possible - with the school year starting Sept. 1st, first Quidditch match in Nov., etc. However, that would mean you would probably have to wait until next May/June to move up a year, and that might be too long to wait. So I was thinking about allowing people to move up/graduate by a system that would involve how many classes you attened, how many posts you've made, how long you've been on the site, etc. I want opinions on how everyone else feels on the subject. Should you be promoted a year if you go to certain number of classes, etc.? Some people desparately want to move up already because of the Quad-Wizard Tournament, hoping to make 6th or 7th year so they can participate. Please reply to this thread with your opinions on the topic so I can get some ideas/feedback.

That's nice and everything, but what about all of the seventh years that do not want to move up and have submitted for the QWT? We hold positions that we may not want to leave just yet. I know I can not be Head Girl forever, but I don't want to lose it within a few months. I know I didn't earn the position, but I love it all the same. So, I was just wondering the aspect on that little tidbit.

I think it is good the way it is now.
When we got sorted you asked us what year we wanted to be in and we gave you an answer so now I believe people shouldn't move out just because they are missing out on something.
In a way we do want this site abit like real life and I don't want to be moved up and year and then throw out of Hogwarts all together.
and people who are Head boy and Girl, Prefects they will only get a small time in that role because they will of left school in a year.

My question is; What if you dont want to move in year? Can you stay the same year? I want to attend as many classes, and participate just as much. I just dont want to move a year.

Anything is fine with me, but I agree with Mai, what if we become 7th years too fast and we still want stay in Hogwarts?

I agree with Mai as well. I wanted to be 6th year just because it was an older year, but I don't want to have to leavve in a few short months or totally change my character, like getting a job. I think that people should stay with the year they entered in as. Maybe if it is just the QWT then it could be by classes or posts instead of year, but graduation should still be the same.

I don't want to give up my head boy ship... -steals the title and hides- mine
I agreee with you that the class system sounds well, but if youtr active you would do that in a matter of months which I think like Mai in I don't want to be moved on just because of my activeness in the school..
I think the time system is much better, your right a year to wait is a long time but it keeps the 7th years in school for longer

Well, in my opinion, people should change their year according to their points achieved, not according to their posts.
Maybe someone posts "yeah, I agree" "Nice to meet you" etc., and that can not be count like a post. The headmistress could decide a points limit for a year, after the students pass that limit, they pass the year.

I think a grading system is a bad idea. It might make people post a lot of useless stuff simply to get more posts. And besides, in real life people also miss out on stuff because they are not in the right year yet. About the tournament, when you sign up you get to choose how you want to start. People should have thought about whether or not they wanted to join before signing up.
What you could do is maybe play out a RP-year in 6 months or something. Still, if you chose to be a first year, play it out. If you choose to be a third year student, that was your own decision. So you're a 6th or 7th year student, yay for you, you can join the tournament. And if you really don't want to wait, create a new character, neh?
The site rules explained that this RPG was about really showing what its like to be a hogwarts student. I dont think that because of some tournament the rules should be changed. And in real life you also have to wait a year before you move on to the next grade. That's called realism. Thats what makes this site believable. Thats what I liked about it when I found it.

I really don't like the idea of cutting time short. It's supposed to be very Hogwarts based... Right?
And, if you really want to join something meant for a higher year just make an older character! Even if you just use them for a certain thing, or make the new character your main character... -Shrugs- But, I really don't think we should go by posts and stuff like that.

I agree with Draco here....Im kinda disappointed I cant be in the qwt, but if i really wanted to I could just make a new character to do that....otherwise I'm not really trying to move up a year

i've only started here, and i took up a position as auror, but i like both sides, so its hard to choose. i mean, who wants to have to take te time in creating a new character or posting a ton, or having to wait a year to move up? on the other hand, who DOESN'T want to move up a year as fast as possible? you shouldn't have to make a new character to be in the year you want to be.
so you see, there's MY predicament.

I think it's better if we stick to real time. That way seventh years can keep their positions for a long time. I don't like the idea of getting a grade up because of the number of posts or house points earned.

OK, after reading all of your opinions, I have decided to keep it in "real time" for a few reasons:
1.) That's the way I originally planned it. 2.) It adds to the "realism" of the site. 3.) I don't think it's fair to force people to move up/graduate when they don't want to, especially after only a few months or so. 4.) When you were sorted, I asked you what year you wanted to be, so if you're not a 6th or 7th year student, it's because you chose not to be! 5.) There is no limit to how many characters you can have on this site. If you want to create a new character that is a 6th or 7th year student, you are welcome and free to do so!
Thank you to all who responded - although I am the Headmistress of this site, I want people to feel like their opinions, ideas, and suggestions are welcome here (because they are!). That's the whole reason I created an "Ideas & Suggestions" board - I like it when people give me ideas on how to better the site, and then I see how everyone else feels about the idea. This is your site too, so always feel free to PM me with ideas/suggestions or post them here on this board! Thank you again!
