Some of the things on this site were not written by me, and therefore I do not take credit for them.
This includes:
Most of the place descriptions for the boards (these are provided by The Harry Potter Lexicon (which is a very good and informative site, by the way!)
Some threads (In those cases, the original author should be noted at the top)
Disclaimer:
If you have a problem with my use of other people's work, or see your own work on here (in that case, it's most likely from Magical Horizons and wish to have it removed, please let me know by PM and it will be removed as soon as possible, in respect of your wishes. Please be polite! I figured that if I credited the original author properly, they wouldn't mind me using it, but if that is not true, I don't want to be ripped apart for it. A polite PM will remove it. Anyway, you should be flattered that I thought so highly of your work that I wanted to include on my site! It's a compliment!
All threads are for entertainment purposes only and are not meant to contradict, override, or replace J.K. Rowling's work. All known information from J.K. Rowling's books must be acknowledged and followed. This site is simply a way to expand and take J.K. Rowling's work further through the use of imagination.
For example, we know that Hermione is a muggle-born witch, but not much else about her past. You may want to come up with how Hermione found out she was a witch, what her home life was like before Hogwarts, etc. You may not say anything contradictory to J.K. Rowling's work. For example, you can't say that Hermione is as dumb as log or failed all her classes, or that she was a Slytherin or something, because all of that is clearly untrue. You as the author are only there to fill in the missing information.
Original characters give you more freedom because there are entirely of your own creation and can have whatever background you choose.
Warning:
This site may contain potential spoilers of the 6th book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
