Note (OOC): The original author of this piece is Wilting Rose of Magical Horizons. The original thread is here.
A thread is set up on the Quidditch Pitch called by the name of the two opposing teams - for example: "Gryffindor Vs. Slytherin Quidditch Match".
The Quidditch Referee is Professor Pearl Dimaché, the Hogwarts Flying Professor.
Professor Dimaché will begin the game by saying something along the lines of "Pearl threw the Quaffle height into the air, and it was immediately intercepted by....."
Anyone, that is, any Chaser from either team can catch it. They role play out a 'rally' for a while. You can do any sort of passing, interception, etc. The Beaters can also hit bludgers at people, and cause interceptions, etc.
This will go on for a while, until Professor Dimaché decides one team is role playing better than the other, and says that they may score a goal. They may specify by who this goal may be scored, if they think anyone has been role playing outstandingly. If this is the case, the selected person (when they go online) can role play a goal score, and only then they may score a goal. If they do not come online for a while, don't act out the goal for them, but let them score it later, while you continue to role play.
This applies to the Chasers.
For a Beater to score a goal, Professor Dimaché has to say that the Beater has been role playing exceptionally, and they may hit a bludger at anyone who is in possession of the Quaffle and say that it was intercepted by a team mate. Any of the three Chasers may now score a goal.
This also applies to the Keeper, who can throw the ball to any chaser on their team, who will be permitted to score.
Finally, the Seeker will have to role play occasionally, commenting on the game. But, their real job is to search every thread on every board, for the modification that will look like this:
YOU HAVE CAUGHT THE GOLDEN SNITCH!
If they find this, they will immediately PM Professor Dimaché with the quote of the entire post that it was on. If correct, they may role play themselves catching the snitch, and the game will be tallied, and over.
Interaction For Spectators
There will be a poll with the opposing teams - for example: "Gryffindor Vs. Slytherin Quidditch Match Poll". Anyone can vote on this, and once the game is complete, it will be locked, and the team with the most votes will receive an extra 50 points.
Quidditch Referee
The Quidditch Referee must:
1.) Attend & Begin The Quidditch Match. The Quidditch Referee will begin the game by saying something along the lines of: "(Quidditch Referee) threw the Quaffle height into the air, and it was immediately intercepted by....."
2.) Follow & Occasionally Post In The Quidditch Game. The Quidditch Referee must check up on the match regularly while it is in progress so they can decide which team is role-playing better in order for a team to score a goal. Another part of their job is to follow the game and keep track of the score and who has the quaffle, etc. If there is a dispute over who has the quaffle, it is the Quidditch Referee's job to settle it.
3.) Tell Me Where To Hide The Golden Snitch. Since the Quidditch Referee does not have the power to modify any board on the site, they will instead tell me where to make the modification that will look like this:
YOU HAVE CAUGHT THE GOLDEN SNITCH!
That way, they will know what post it is on and can tell if a Seeker has correctly found it. To make it slightly easier for the Seeker, the Golden Snitch may not be hidden in any board that requires a password (like the Common Rooms or Dorms).
4.) Keep Track of The Score. It is the Quidditch Referee's job to keep track of the game's score and post the score on the first post of the match (the post in which the Quidditch Referee started the game) and update it as needed.
5.) Settle Disputes. If there is a dispute over something, it is the Quidditch Referee's job to settle it.
6.) End & Lock The Game. When a Seeker successfully finds the snitch, it is the Quidditch Referee's job to RP the end of the game and to lock the thread afterwards.
