Note (OOC): The original author of this piece is Jesika on Magical Horizons. This thread has been modified for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The original thread is here.
Firstly, if you haven't read the simple rules of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, then please do so now. They're quite short, and will help you get an idea of what is expected by the members of this forum. Click to read over the Offical Rules of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Alright, if you're new at this sort of thing, you've asked the right person! ^^ Here are some simple basics about this type of forum RP. I hope this aids you, and makes reading and replying easier.
1. First off, posts here at Hogwarts are usually written in third-person, past-tence. This can be stretched from time to time, but I'm sure everyone would like it if you'd adhere to this type of writing. Here is an example:
Jesika roamed the hallways of Hogwarts, hoping to find a new friend to talk to.
2. There are several ways to mark your Roleplay actions and speech. In example, some people use the following to define an action:
*Allorix dove under her bed, in frantic search of her Botany textbook.*
or:
-Allorix dove under her bed, in frantic search of her Botany textbook.-
or even:
(Allorix dove under her bed, in frantic search of her Botany textbook.)
or simply:
Allorix dove under her bed, in frantic search of her Botany textbook.
There are also a few different ways to signify speaking parts, like so:
"I'm so hungry I could eat a cow!"
or:
'I'm so hungry I could eat a cow!'
There are also ways to show silent thoughts, take a look at these:
I can't believe I smiled at him. Does he know that I like him!?
or:
I can't believe I smiled at him. Does he know that I like him!?
3. Please, refrain from god-roleplay at ALL costs! God-Roleplaying is when one character writes another characters actions for them. This is not only rude, but unfair. Punishment from the Headmistress can be induced if this persists.
4. Try to use proper grammar and spelling when posting. Also long as you do your best everyone will be happy, so don't worry if it's not perfect.
5. The 'all-powerful' type characters are generally frowned upon. You earn abilities and knowledge by developing your character. Not even the Headmistress has 'super-de-duper' powers!
~~~
Keeping all that in mind, PM the Headmistress the house you wish to be in (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slyhterin). To take a sorting ceremony quiz to find out what house best fits you, click Sorting Ceremony Quizes.
You may post your arrival in the Entrance Hall board when ever you like. To get an idea about how to introduce yourself, view some other characters entrances.
From there, you may post around where ever you wish! Just keep in mind that some places outside the school are dangerous and should not be disturbed by students. Warnings are posted at those boards.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to post them! I hope this has helped you.
